Why it is free ›Coffee · ranking
Coffee sits in a chapter of its own kind of mix. This page reads the ten leading exporters, and explains why some of them are roasters and traders rather than growers.

Ranking is for the whole of HS chapter 09 (coffee, tea, mate and spices), reporter-declared, latest year available per market. Source: UN Comtrade.
Coffee is heading 0901, covering green and roasted beans, decaffeinated coffee, husks and skins, and substitutes containing coffee. The ranking, though, is drawn from all of HS chapter 09, so tea, mate and spices are inside the totals as well.
Look at the names and you will see two kinds of economy. Brazil at $11.8B, Vietnam at $4.7B, Colombia at $3.6B and Indonesia at $2.7B are commonly associated with growing. Germany at $4.5B, Switzerland at $3.9B and Italy at $3.0B are better known for roasting, trading and processing, so their totals probably include coffee that did not originate there.
Brazil’s $11.8B is more than double India’s $5.2B in second place. From there the table falls in a long staircase to Sri Lanka at $1.8B in tenth, with China and Colombia both at $3.6B in the middle.
The ten together hold 63.6% of the ranked markets among 96. Vietnam is the only row from 2023. A buyer who wants diversity of origin has real choice, because the middle ranks are spread over several regions.
Chapter-level, reporter-declared figures cannot tell you about bean type, altitude, certification or crop timing. Re-exports through processing hubs inflate some entries, and the records list the shipping country, which may differ from the growing origin.
Confirm the destination’s current import requirements, including any residue, labelling or traceability expectations, with its customs authority. Agree the Incoterm, currency, payment method and quality standard in writing before shipment.
Search shipment records under the coffee heading for the origin you want. The output names exporters, buyers, quantities and declared values, showing who ships regularly and where.
If you produce coffee, the same data shows who buys from your competitors, and the free marketplace lets you publish an offer to those buyers.
Brazil leads at $11.8B. The figure covers all of HS chapter 09, which includes tea, mate and spices, so it is a chapter total rather than a pure coffee value.
They roast, blend and re-export coffee, so their declared exports likely include beans grown elsewhere. Check origin fields in shipment records to see where coffee was grown.
