Why it is free ›Before shipping on credit to a wholesale company you have never dealt with, it is worth knowing how to verify it is a genuine, registered entity — here is what that check actually involves in Saudi Arabia.
Not every business calling itself a rice wholesaler in Riyadh is a formally registered commercial entity, and confirming that a prospective buyer actually is one is a genuinely useful step before extending any payment flexibility on a first shipment — the documentation involved is specific to Saudi Arabia and worth understanding rather than taking on trust.
Every legitimate Saudi wholesale trading company holds a Commercial Registration (Sijil Tijari) issued by the Ministry of Commerce, which specifies the company’s registered trading activities — food and foodstuff wholesale should appear explicitly among them. The Ministry of Commerce’s own public business lookup lets an exporter or their agent confirm a CR number is active and matches the company’s registered name before shipping, a check that takes minutes and catches a surprising number of shell or lapsed registrations.
Beyond the CR, a wholesale food business operating a physical warehouse in Riyadh needs a municipal (Baladi) commercial licence for that specific location, and SFDA registration covering the products it imports and distributes. A company with a valid CR but no matching SFDA registration is not yet legally able to import and distribute food products, regardless of how established it otherwise appears.

| Check | Where to verify |
|---|---|
| CR number active and activities include food wholesale | Ministry of Commerce business lookup |
| SFDA registration current for food import/distribution | SFDA's own registration database |
| Municipal licence matches the warehouse address given | Requestable from the company directly |
| Trading history — years in business, existing supplier references | Bank or trade reference check |
A national distributor or a large retail chain’s own reputation is usually enough reassurance on its own; a smaller wholesale company is exactly where verification adds the most value, since the range of legitimacy among Riyadh’s many small and mid-size wholesalers is genuinely wide, and a few minutes of registration checking is far cheaper than an unpaid first shipment.
