Why it is free ›Private label means the exporter disappears from the bag entirely — the retailer’s own brand goes on the packaging, and the commercial relationship behind that is built differently from a standard supply deal.
A private label arrangement means a Saudi retailer’s own brand appears on the packaging rather than the exporter’s — the retailer owns the design, the specification and the customer relationship at the shelf, while the exporter supplies the product to that exact spec under a contract-packing agreement. This is common enough on the Saudi retail route that a supermarket or hypermarket buyer’s first question is often not whether private label is available, but whether the exporter can execute it at the volume and consistency their programme requires.
The process typically begins with the retailer sharing its packaging specification — dimensions, printing requirements and label content — against which the exporter quotes a per-unit contract-packing cost on top of the underlying rice price. A minimum order quantity applies, usually set higher than a standard branded order because the retailer’s custom packaging cannot easily be resold or repurposed if the deal falls through partway.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Specification exchange | Retailer shares packaging design, dimensions and label content |
| Costing | Exporter quotes contract-packing cost on top of the base rice price |
| Artwork approval | Retailer signs off on proofs before production packaging is printed |
| First production run | Usually a larger MOQ than a standard branded order |
| Ongoing supply | A repeat schedule matching the retailer's own shelf-replenishment cycle |
Private label does not relax any of Saudi Arabia’s food-labelling requirements — SFDA-compliant nutritional information, a Halal certification mark, origin and net weight all have to appear correctly regardless of whose name is on the front of the bag. Getting this wrong on a private label run is more costly than on a standard branded order, since the packaging is custom and cannot simply be relabelled and sold under the exporter’s own brand instead if it is rejected.
Saudi Arabia’s larger supermarket and hypermarket chains run the most active private label programmes, treating their own-brand rice line as a genuine category within their broader private label grocery offering rather than a minor side project. Smaller retail chains and some large wholesale groups also run private label programmes at a smaller scale, typically with lower minimum order quantities than the largest national chains require.

No — the same nutritional information, Halal certification mark, origin and net weight requirements apply regardless of whose brand appears on the packaging.
Usually yes, since the custom packaging is specific to that retailer and cannot easily be resold or repurposed if the run falls short of the retailer's needs.
