Why it is free ›A private-label order is not a bulk shipment with a different label stapled on — it involves an artwork-approval cycle, a higher minimum quantity, and a decision about where the packaging actually happens.
Private label means a retailer or distributor’s own brand goes on the pack instead of the exporter’s, and it splits into two distinct arrangements that a new supplier should tell apart before quoting: the exporter fills the buyer’s own packaging at origin in India and ships it ready for shelf, or the exporter ships bulk rice and a UAE-based packer fills it locally under the buyer’s brand — the second is usually called contract packing rather than pure private label, and it changes both the minimum order and who is responsible for the printed pack meeting UAE labelling rules.
A private-label order does not move on the same timeline as a standard bulk shipment — the buyer’s packaging artwork has to be finalised, translated where Arabic labelling is required, checked against Dubai Municipality’s food-labelling rules for country of origin, nutritional information and net weight, and approved on both sides before a single bag is printed. A first-time private-label relationship should budget real weeks for this cycle rather than assuming it runs in parallel with production, since a printing error on packaging is far more expensive to fix after the fact than a labelling mistake on a plain catering sack would be.
Because private-label packaging is printed specifically for one buyer and cannot be resold to anyone else if the deal falls through, exporters typically set a materially higher minimum order for private label than for standard bulk or branded retail supply — often a full container’s worth committed up front rather than a trial part-load. A buyer asking for private label on a small first order is either planning to scale quickly or has not fully priced out what a print run actually costs, and it is worth clarifying which before committing packaging capacity.
| Question to ask a private-label buyer | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Filled at origin or contract-packed locally in the UAE? | Determines who controls the printed pack and who is liable for labelling compliance |
| What is the committed minimum order? | Private-label packaging cannot be resold to another buyer if the deal falls through |
| Who owns the artwork and translation? | Arabic labelling and Dubai Municipality compliance checks add real lead time |
| Is this an exclusive brand or a house label used across multiple suppliers? | Changes how much volume commitment realistically backs the request |

There is no single figure, but exporters typically set it well above a standard bulk trial order — often a full container commitment — because private-label packaging is printed specifically for one buyer and cannot be sold on if the order does not go ahead.
Both models exist. Some buyers want the pack filled at origin and shipped ready for shelf; others prefer bulk rice shipped to a UAE-based contract packer, which shifts packaging control and labelling responsibility onto a local party instead.
