Why it is free ›Some Northern Emirates buyers deliberately route a CIF quote into Sharjah rather than Dubai to shave freight and handling cost — here is why that matters on price-sensitive orders.
Sharjah runs its own port infrastructure separate from Dubai’s, and for a price-sensitive wholesaler distributing across Sharjah, Ajman and the wider Northern Emirates, quoting CIF directly into Sharjah rather than routing through Dubai or Jebel Ali and trucking onward is a deliberate, cost-driven choice. This market runs on tighter margins than Dubai’s Deira-based trade, and every dirham saved on freight and inland transport matters more here than it would to a premium-positioned buyer.
Landing a container directly at Sharjah avoids the inland trucking leg a buyer would otherwise pay for after clearing at Dubai, which can meaningfully change the landed cost per tonne on a large order, especially one destined for Ajman or other Northern Emirates redistribution rather than Sharjah city itself. This is less about the port being cheaper to clear at in absolute terms and more about eliminating a whole leg of onward logistics.
The Incoterm works the same way here as at any other Gulf port: the exporter’s quoted figure covers the goods, ocean freight and marine insurance to discharge at Sharjah, with risk transferring to the buyer once the goods are loaded at the Indian port of origin. UAE import duty and any destination handling or onward transport costs sit outside the CIF price and remain the buyer’s responsibility.
A Sharjah-facing wholesaler negotiates hard on price per container and rarely pays a premium for grade prestige or retail-finished packaging the way a Dubai or Abu Dhabi buyer sometimes will — landed cost per tonne is the number that decides most deals in this market, and an exporter quoting here should lead with that figure rather than grade storytelling.

No — CIF covers the goods, freight and insurance to the port only. Import duty and any onward transport remain the buyer's responsibility.
