Why it is free ›Beyond Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and the pilgrim cities, a second layer of regional wholesalers redistributes rice across the rest of Saudi Arabia — smaller accounts, still worth reaching directly.
Most of Saudi Arabia’s rice import volume clears through Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam, but a real, ongoing layer of regional wholesale distribution serves the rest of the country from a shorter list of secondary cities. None of these individually rivals the major hubs in volume, but together they represent a genuine, less-contested customer base — most of these wholesalers buy through the coastal ports and are rarely approached directly by exporters, who default to the capital cities.
| City | Character |
|---|---|
| Khobar | Eastern Province, close to Dammam, an alternative point of contact to the larger port |
| Yanbu | Red Sea port city north of Jeddah, own smaller-scale import activity |
| Taif | Highland city near Makkah, wholesale and retail redistribution |
| Qassim (Buraidah) | Central Saudi Arabia, regional wholesale distribution |
| Abha / Jazan | South-western region, wholesalers and distributors |
| Tabuk | North-western Saudi Arabia, regional distribution |
| Hail | North-central Saudi Arabia, regional distribution |
These are regional wholesalers and distributors rather than national accounts — smaller order sizes, less formal procurement processes, and a genuine, ongoing supply relationship is often easier to establish because there is far less competition for their attention than for a Jeddah or Riyadh buyer’s. Most source rice already landed at Jeddah or Dammam and trucked inland, though Yanbu has its own smaller-scale port import activity.
The certification, grade and Incoterm questions do not change by city — SFDA registration, a current Halal certificate, and a clear grade specification apply everywhere in Saudi Arabia. What changes is scale: expect smaller container quantities and less frequent standing contracts than a Jeddah wholesaler or a Riyadh national account would commit to.

Only Yanbu has meaningful direct port activity; the rest receive rice trucked in from Jeddah or Dammam after it clears customs there.
Yes — order sizes are smaller than in the major hubs, but competition for these accounts is much lower, and a direct relationship is often easier to establish.
